INTEGRATED HOSPITAL DESIGN :

THE SHEIKH KHALIFA MEDICAL CITY

Envisioned as 'three hospital under one roof, Abu Dhabi's new 300.000 square meter, 850-bed Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) combines general, women's and paediatric hospitals in a single facility. A primary objective of the client (SEHA - Abu Dhabi Health Service Company) was that each of these hospitals would have its own identity within a cohesive and integrated campus. The idea of balancing identity and integration ripples through  the entire design and ultimately serves as a means of bringing clarity to an immense facility. From site design to textile design, the Medical City has been conceived in a holistic manner with a belief that an ordered, unified and visually rich healthcare environment best serves its patients and staff.
